I
am in Turkey, my last stop before California. It was a pretty long plane ride
and I am wondering why we chose to go to these countries in this order. I think
we should have left California, gone to Trujillo, Nairobi, Turkey and lastly
Nepal, but maybe this was a simpler way to buy the plane tickets. Our last mountain/volcano
that we will be traveling to is Mount Erciyes (aka Erciyes Dağı)
15 miles away from the city of Kayseri. Its last eruption is unknown though I
have heard that it could have been around 6880 BC (an unbelievably long time
ago). The Anatolian plate is moving at a rate of 8-9 ft each century. There
have been some horrible earthquakes in Turkey some having a magnitude as big as
7.9.Sadly we only get to stay in Turkey for two days, so I should make the most of it. See y'all later!

Andes (9°42'10.21"S 76°56'27.81"W)
Sorry I didn’t write yesterday I took a long nap and then I did a little shopping. Today is my last day here then I have one last stop before I arrive home.
The Andes are located on the Nazca plate and run along the west coast of South America. The Nazca plate is a divergent boundary but is specifically called a subduction boundary. Subduction is when two plates converge together the less dense plate drops under the other plate. A trench (deep sea trench) is a feature of a subduction boundary. In this case it is the Nazca plate subducted underneath the South American plate. After the two plates join, the trench comes along with a chain of volcanoes over the overriding plate.

9°42'10.21"S 76°56'27.81"W My next destination. It’s the Andes Mountains and I am staying in Trujillo, Peru. The hotel we are at is the Hotel Marquez, but unfortunately it is pretty far away from the Andes, so we will have another long drive. We have to get up early to start our drive, and I would like to explore Peru. Catch up with you later!

Mount Annapurna (28°35′46″N 83°49′13″E)
Today
we traveled to mount Annapurna, which was a good day to go because the sun was shining.
We didn’t get very close to the mountain, only close enough to have a great
view of the mountains, while we learned about the Eurasian plate.
The Eurasian
plate is a divergent boundary, but that is just the general classification. It
is more specifically known as a collision boundary. A collision boundary is when
two joining plates that have continents fuse together and become one. When the
two plates collide the crust at the boundary pushes upward which creates a
mountain range.
The Himalayas were created when India and China were pushed together and it is still happening now at about 5 cm each year and the most recent earthquake around 11 months ago.
